Adjust the Length of Your In-Pipe Heating Cable
Share
Can I adjust the length if I can’t find the perfect size?
Yes, but don’t cut it!
The in-pipe heating cable is designed with high waterproofing standards and cutting it without proper tools and expertise can damage the cable. Here’s how you can safely adjust the length.
What You’ll Need: Pipe wrench, strap wrench, or channel lock & PTFE tape
Step-by-Step Guide
Step 1: Loosen the Compression Nut
Use your wrench to loosen the brass nut. This nut secures the cable inside the pipe.
Step 2: Adjust the Cable Length
Slide the grommet along the cable to adjust how much of the cable is inside the pipe.
Step 3: Tighten the Nut
Hand-tighten the nut first, then use the wrench to further tighten it. For extra security, wrap PTFE tape around the threads before tightening.
Step 4: Manage Excess Cable
Coil any extra cable and secure it with zip ties. Remember, the cable outside the pipe will still heat up to 60℃ (140℉), so handle it carefully. For better insulation and to reduce energy consumption, wrap the external part with insulation tape.
Following these steps will help you adjust your In-Pipe Heating Cable without compromising its effectiveness or safety.
