● Specifications: The heating cable features self-regulating technology, providing 5W/ft at 50℉ (10°C), a 6 ft power cord, a built-in thermostat, and a 33 ft glass cloth tape for installation.
● Self-Regulating Feature: Self-regulating does NOT mean the cable will automatically turn on or off. It automatically adjusts heating power based on the surrounding temperature. Higher temperatures reduce output to save energy, while lower temperatures increase output to generate more heat for pipe freeze protection.
● Installation Methods: The cable supports three wrapping styles: overlap, straight trace, and spiral wrapping.
● Applications: Suitable for all pipes, whether plastic or metal, and even for pipes without water. It works for outdoor water pipes, garden hoses, RV pipes, winter protection for heat-sensitive plants, and livestock drinking water systems.
● Note: Once plugged in, the indicator light turns on, and the cable starts heating immediately. Since the product does not automatically turn off, the maximum temperature can reach 60°C (140°F).

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

  • A1: If it's not too much trouble, the best option is to unwrap and rewrap the cable, ensuring the wraps are slightly denser to fully utilize the remaining heating cable. This maximizes the efficiency of the heat produced.

A simpler option is to wrap the leftover cable back around the end section; overlapping is not a concern since our heating cable is self-regulating. This will generate additional heat, causing the cable to sense the increased temperature and lower its output power.

The final option is to cut off the excess cable. If you choose this method, make sure to seal the cut end with a waterproof end cap to prevent water ingress.

Please note that cutting should only be done with self-regulating heating cables; constant wattage cables should not be cut.

Questions & Answers

Have a Question?

Ask a Question
  • Does the Green cable ever turn off? Or is it constantly on? Does it start up and turn off at different temperatures? If it does not, can I simply plug it into a thermostatically controlled power outlet?

    Thank you for your question!

The green cable is a plug-and-heat type of self-regulating cable. It starts heating when powered on and stops working when powered off. It can adjust its output power based on the surrounding temperature, but it doesn’t automatically turn on and off at specific temperatures like MAXKOSKO blue heat cable with built-in thermostat.

You can use it with a MAXKOSKO thermostatically controlled power outlet.

  • What's the difference between red blue black and green heat cables ?

Pipe Heat cable Blue, Green and Black are categorized as Self-Regulating Heating Cables. These cables adjust their heat output based on the surrounding temperature.
They automatically increase power output when the temperature drops and decrease it when the temperature rises. This self-regulation helps prevent overheating and ensures efficient operation.

Pipe Heat cable Red is categorized as Constant Wattage Heating Cables. These cables provide a consistent and fixed amount of heat output per foot throughout their entire length.

They do not adjust their heat output based on temperature changes in the surrounding environment.

If you want a plug-and-heat solution that even operates at -40℉(-40℃), and a 6ft. power cord is preferred, consider Pipe Guard Green.

If you prioritize enhanced energy efficiency, automatic On/Off control, and Anti-freeze at down to -40℉(-40℃), consider Pipe Guard Blue.

If you are looking for a cost-effective option, a 6ft. power cord is preferred,  and your city normally won't get as cold as -4℉(-20°C), consider Pipe Guard Red.

Pipe heat cables Blue, Green and Red are designed for pipe freeze protection.
Pipe heat cable black can be used for pipes as well as roof deicing and snow-melting.

  • Can either your Blue or Green heat trace cable be wrapped in close cell pipe insulation?

Yes! This helps to enhance efficient heat along the pipes.
