120V Self-Regulating Roof & Gutter De-Icing Cable
MAXKOSKO Preassembled Roof & Gutter De-Icing Cable helps maintain a drainage path for melting snow and ice along roof edges, gutters, and downspouts, reducing conditions that can contribute to ice dams.
The self-regulating heating cable automatically adjusts its heat output according to the surrounding temperature. Each fixed-length cable includes a 6 ft power cord and lighted plug for connection to a suitable 120V ground-fault-protected outlet.
Your selected cable length refers to the heating cable section only. The additional 6 ft power cord is not deducted from the selected heating length.
Self-Regulating Heat Output
Produces more heat in colder conditions and reduces output as the surrounding temperature becomes warmer.

Supplied as a fixed-length heating cable with an attached 6 ft power cord and lighted plug.

Calculate the Complete Cable Route
Do Not Order by Roof Width Alone: Total cable length must include the roof-edge pattern, roof extension, gutters, downspouts, valleys, and any required return runs.
Fixed-Length Cable: Select the correct preassembled length before ordering. Do not cut, shorten, splice, or repair the heating cable.
Accessories Sold Separately: Roof clips, downspout hangers, UV-resistant cable ties, controller, and ground-fault-protected outlet are not included unless specifically stated in the selected package.
Not a Snow-Melting System: This cable is designed to maintain a drainage path for meltwater. It will not remove accumulated snow from the roof or prevent snow and ice from falling.
Self-Regulating Does Not Mean Automatic Shutoff: The cable reduces its output as temperatures rise but may continue consuming power. A compatible roof de-icing controller is recommended for automatic and more energy-efficient operation.
GFCI Protection Required: Connect the cable only to a properly grounded, weather-protected 120V outlet with code-compliant ground-fault protection.
Accessible Outdoor Installation: Install only on accessible roof, gutter, and downspout surfaces. Do not place the cable beneath roofing materials or conceal it inside walls, ceilings, or floors.

How Much Heating Cable Do You Need? View Guide Hide Guide
Calculate the complete route before selecting a cable length. The required cable is generally the total of the following sections:
| A. Roof Edge Pattern | Roof-edge length multiplied by the required cable-per-foot factor for the roof style and eave overhang |
| B. Roof Extension | Approximately 0.5 times the roof-edge length when the cable must extend beyond the roof edge |
| C. Gutter | Total gutter length; wide gutters may require two parallel cable runs |
| D. Downspouts | Total downspout length plus approximately 1 ft; double this amount when looping the cable down and back up |
| Roof Valleys | Additional cable may be required to run approximately two-thirds of the way up and back down each valley |
Length Selection Notes
Choose Enough Cable for the Full Route: Include every roof loop, gutter section, downspout, valley, and return path in your calculation.
Do Not Purchase Excess Cable: The fixed-length heating section cannot be shortened or left coiled during operation.
Wide Gutters: Gutters approximately 5–6 inches wide may require two heating cable runs.
Middle Downspouts: When a downspout is located in the middle of the route, calculate enough cable to travel down and return back up.

- Clean leaves and debris from the roof, gutters, and downspouts before installation.
- Plan the entire cable route before attaching the cable.
- Create a looped pattern along the roof overhang so meltwater can reach the gutter.
- Route the cable continuously through gutters and downspouts where drainage protection is required.
- Use compatible roof clips and downspout hangers rather than staples or unapproved fasteners.
- Form a drip loop in the power cord and keep the plug connection protected from water.
- Protect the cable from ladders, sliding snow, sharp edges, and other mechanical damage.

Do Not Damage the Cable
No Staples or Improvised Fasteners: Use only suitable roof cable attachment hardware that will not crush, pierce, or sharply bend the cable.
Do Not Energize a Damaged Cable: If the cable is cut, crushed, burned, or otherwise damaged, discontinue use and replace the complete cable.
